In May 2019, Tonia was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer. Just last month, Christmas Without Cancer celebrated her sixth year of courageously fighting this battle. Her family and friends held their annual party in her honor; a tradition they’ve invited us to every year since 2020. This year was particularly special, as Tonia had spent 9 days in the ICU fighting for her life because of dangerously low potassium levels. She has triumphed over that challenge, just as she has with many others that this awful disease has presented, and she is growing stronger each day. When we first met her, her dream was to see her oldest child go off to college. Now, she has two daughters in college and a son who is navigating his last years in high school. Tonia fights every day, especially for her family. She often reminds us to “Live like there is no tomorrow.” This incredible woman continues to face challenges with unwavering determination. Tonia credits her strong support system, which include her family, friends, sisters, parents and CWC.  It is clear that this support and her positive outlook are what enable her to thrive every single day. She serves as an inspiration to us all, and our organization is grateful to have her in our lives. Our team looks forward to having her as an honoree at our 5K being held on Saturday, September 20th.
