Ben entered the world at just 24 weeks, weighing under 1 pound (14 ounces). He spent 8 months in the NICU and finally came home a week before Christmas in 2022. He was discharged on oxygen and G-Tube feedings. Ben was under the care of several specialists, including a pulmonologist, an ENT, a retinal specialist, and a developmental pediatrician. He was also benefiting from the support of five early intervention therapists, covering physical, occupational, speech, developmental, and nutritional therapies. He was making big strides.
Unfortunately, everything changed in March 2024 when he received the tough diagnosis of Hepatoblastoma (liver cancer). Throughout the year, he bravely battled the illness, undergoing surgery to remove half of his liver and gallbladder, along with completing a total of 6 rounds of chemotherapy. The journey was not easy. He went through multiple extended hospital stays every time he went through treatment. BUT HE DID IT!
Recently, his family received the most wonderful news: scans confirmed that Ben is now officially CANCER-FREE. He can now shift his focus back to his needed therapy, start school, and enjoy being a KID! We were thrilled to team up with Miracles for Mya this Christmas season to spread some much-deserved joy to Ben, along with his mom Emily and dad Joshua. Please continue to keep Ben and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
